3 Upgrades to Take Your Chrysler Prowler from Stock to Custom

Your Prowler is one cool retro sports car -- unique among roadsters, let alone among the select few that Chrysler made. Put simply, it's one with serious hot-rod potential. As far as mods for that go, your options are as wide as the track is long, too.

Here's a few ideas for your next customization project.

1. Cold Air Intake

Prowler came standard with a 3.5-liter V6 shelling out 214 horsepower -- that is, until 1999, when Chrysler bumped that up to 253 horsepower. Seems like plenty for a two-door, but did you know that you can get a little bigger bump, and efficiently to boot? Just swap out your stock air intake for a cold air intake.

Basically, relocate it near one of the fenders, if not above one of the wheel wells; the intake will then be able to pull freer-flowing (denser and cooler, therefore, better-quality) air into the engine for combustion. That means a richer air-to-fuel ratio -- just what you need for a few extra horses.

2. Performance Air Filter

The factory engine air filter in your Prowler will remove pollutants from the air as it enters the motor, sure, but a performance air filter can give you an even better balance of airflow and filtration. This helps further enrich that gas and oxygen mix, and thereby, combustion.

3. Custom Exhaust

Modding an exhaust opens the exhaust pipe up. This is critical to more and better airflow, of course, but choose a cat-back exhaust, and you can take advantage of larger-diameter tubes, a muffler with better exhaust flow, and reduced weight. You'll even make your rev more aggressive -- it'll become one sure to turn heads; nobody's going to mistake your ride for anything else than a Prowler.
