Drive a Chrysler LHS? Don't Ignore These Three Common Problems

LHS might've been the quintessential Chrysler sedan to be driving in the late 1990s and early 2000s if you loved cars like Chrysler Imperial and Fifth Avenue and wanted the luxury they afforded. However, it wasn't without issues, even during its short seven-year career. Luckily, they aren't too hard to repair -- if you know the signs to watch out for.

Here are three of the commonest, and more importantly, what to do about them.

1. Defective Fuel Systems

If your LHS is leaking gas from its fuel system -- from the fuel rail, the O-ring seals on the rail, or from the fuel injectors, for instance -- there's probably a crack in the system somewhere. This is a known issue for models from between 1994 and 2001 with 214,000 or fewer miles on their odometers these days.

Your vehicle may qualify for recall by Chrysler, but if it doesn't, you'll have to reinforce the rail yourself, and replace the seals. Seals run only tens of dollars in most cases. Fuel system repairs, however, are more expensive. Fuel pumps, for instance, can go for $755 to just under $800, while fuel injectors can run $290 to just under $340.

2. Failed Window Regulators

LHS models from between '94 and '01 with 355,000 miles or fewer on their odometers today have a known issue where their window glass lift plates can bend or break. This happens, and the glass will tilt, getting the pane stuck in the door. If regulator is bad, replacing it can run $475 to $500 on average.

3. Faulty Cooling Systems

If the engine in your LHS is overheating, and if the heating's not working right to boot, then most likely, there's still air left in the cooling system from when it was last serviced. This is a known issue for models from between '94 and '01 with 153,000 or fewer miles on their odometers nowadays.

The fix is filling the system properly, but if that doesn't work, one or another part might remain a problem. You'll need to run an inspecting and replace accordingly.
