OEM MOPAR Belts, Pulleys & Brackets Online

Mopar Belts, Pulleys, and Brackets Explained

How Many and What Kinds There are, and What They Do

Like hoses, belts move many of the parts inside a vehicle that are supposed to move, keeping things across many different systems running the way they're supposed to. There are three types: serpentine, drive (also called V-belts) and timing.

There are two main types of pulleys, on the other hand: crank and accessory. Most are driven by a main crank pulley bolted to a vehicle's crankshaft. Other kinds include idler and tensioner, and they all help the belts do their jobs.

The Signs They're Going Bad and When to Replace Them

Serpentine belts will show cracks or shallow grooves. Change them every 60,000 to 90,000 miles. Drive belts will show excessive looseness or tightness or cracks and start squealing, with accompanying alternator trouble and engine overheats. Change them if you see these signs. Timing belts will show general damage. Change them when they show signs of failure, or every 60,000 to 90,000 miles. Timing chains, however, are built to last an engine's lifetime and unlikely to require replacement.

Crank pulley problems will show up as a vibrating engine, a failing alternator or power steering pump, transmission damage, and irregular engine idling speed. Idler pulleys will show visible wear or damage and bearing damage, and may start squealing. Drive belt tensioner trouble will manifest as grinding or squeaking, abnormal belt wear, and the failure of belt-driven accessories. Change any of these when you see such symptoms.

Why Buy Genuine OEM Belts, Pulleys, and Brackets vs. Aftermarket?

Mopar guarantees that what it manufactures will work with the car, truck, SUV, or van you drive. The same can't always be said for off-brand auto parts.

Where to Order Them Online
