OEM MOPAR Air Intake Systems Online

Air Intake Systems 101

What One Does

It draws air through an engine's cylinders into its intake manifold. The process is called air induction (and thus, another name for an air intake is an induction system). Of course, this process is separate from what the fuel system does, which is use fuel injectors to spray gas through intake valves into the engine. At any rate, the air mixes with the gas in the correct ratio, the spark plugs on top of the engine ignite the mix, it burns, and the engine produces power.

How One Works

First, an air filter (part of an air cleaner assembly) captures contaminants, before they can get into the rest of the engine. Then, the several other components of an air intake -- among them, a mass airflow sensor, an air metering system, and one or more oxygen sensors -- work together on regulating air levels. Together, they coordinate both air induction and exhaust, providing feedback about both to an engine control unit (ECU).

Cold Air Intakes

How these work is a little different. They relocate engine air filters to just outside engine compartments, above wheel wells or near fenders. This placement enables an engine to take in air that's cooler, denser, and therefore higher-quality. The result: a slight improvement in engine power output.

Signs One's Failing

As no air intake lasts forever, when one starts to go bad and fail, there are symptoms that'll tell you so. For instance:

  • The Check Engine warning may illuminate on your vehicle's dash instrumentation
  • The engine may begin to rev abnormally fast
  • Your vehicle may start to idle at unusual speeds

The best thing to do if you see any of these signs is plug in a code reader and run a thorough induction system inspection. If its results indicate you need a new intake, replace the old one ASAP.

How to Install a New One

That depends on what your owner's documentation and/or the manufacturer's instructions that come with your purchase say. Check out wikiHow to get a rough idea of how to replace it. (Aftermarket or brand-name intake, the process is generally the same.) On that note, before you buy anything, be sure you're getting the latter.

Why Buy Genuine OEM Air Intake Systems vs. Aftermarket?

The parts Mopar designs come compatible with your brand and model specifically, right off the factory line. Off-brands don't always promise the same thing -- and even if they do, their parts may not always fit your vehicle as well as they advertise.

Where to Buy a Genuine Mopar Air Intake

Our online auto parts store has what you're looking for. What we offer is inexpensive compared to what you can get elsewhere, too. For example, some stores charge retail or more for an air intake -- many hundreds of dollars to start with, and that's excluding taxes, fees, and pro installation. Many of ours, however, are priced well below MSRP.

Ready to start browsing? Just select your make, model, and model year in our catalog; it's both the fastest and the easiest way to find what's compatible with what you drive. Order now, and you can take advantage of fast shipping to any address in the US, business or personal.

If you'd like to learn more about our shipping policies, here are the details. For one, if your order is in stock, it can ship in 24 hours or so. If it's not, and it needs to be ordered from your brand, it can take as few as 2 to 6 business days (usually fewer than the latter). Moreover, we offer overnight shipping, assuming your order qualifies. Our policies on returns and cancellations are just as straightforward: should you need to return your intake or cancel your order for one altogether before it ships, it's no problem; just contact us. Be sure to consult our store policies pages for complete info.

Have questions about air intakes generally? Maybe you're just looking for some more specific buying advice on this or that part number. In any case, feel free to get in touch with us. One of our parts team's knowledgeable specialists will be happy to help.
