What are Some Common Problems with Dodge W250?

Transmission Failure

If you're having trouble shifting gears, most likely, it's because of restricted flow through the transmission oil cooler. This is a known issue for W250 models from between 1990 and 1993, those with anywhere from around 90,000 miles to around 200,000 these days, and it's probably caused your transmission to fail for lack of lubrication. Inspect it to be sure, then flush the cooler itself and its lines.

Oil Leaks

If you're driving a W250 from between '90 and '93 and it's leaking oil, it could be from one or several engine parts: the valve cover gaskets, the timing cover gasket, the intake manifold gasket, the distributor, the distributor's O-ring, or the engine block seal's bearing cap. This is a known issue for models with anywhere from 120,000 miles or so to around 150,000 these days. You'll have to replace whatever the problem is, and if there's oil in the distributor, you'll need to replace that, too.

Bad Brakes

If your W250 1. is from between '90 and '93, 2. Has 12-inch rear brakes, there's a good chance they've got shoes that have worn out prematurely. Inspect to be sure, and if you find that's the case, you'll need to replace them.
