Tire Maintenance 101: Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM Edition

Goodyear Eagle Sport All-Seasons on a Chrysler 300. Bridgestone Blizzaks on a Dodge Challenger. A Jeep Wrangler with BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2s. A RAM 1500 with Continental TerrainContact H/Ts.

Whatever your vehicle, it needs the best tires you can get for it. And these, for the best ride quality possible and for safe driving.

That means the tires need to be in the best condition possible; it's one of many keys to avoiding accidents, after all. And that means doing monthly inspections for common tire problems -- for example, low tire pressure, shallow tread depth, and, relatedly, wheel misalignment. Driving bad roads in and around Phoenix, though -- over potholes, in an arid climate, with regular dust storms and all the rocky, debris-ridden terrain that comes with them -- you might even want to do them a little more often than that.

Here's some advice on what to do to keep your tires in top shape.

  • Keep them inflated. Don't overinflate or underinflate. It'll help you avoid flats and blowouts. Overinflated tires mean tread wear toward the center; underinflated tires mean tread wear near the edges. Erratic tread wear (i.e., "cupping"), though -- that probably means your wheel alignment is off. And if the tread's raised, or part of the sidewall is, the problem might be a belt making up part of the tire -- it's probably separated. Most of the time, there's no fixing these things, really, either; you'll have to replace the tires.
  • Inspect for signs of tire problems. These range widely. They can include vibrating or thumps while driving (indicating a tire imbalance), flat tread spots, tire belt separation, pulling sideways (a case of underinflation or tire damage on the side your ride pulls to; it can also be a brake or wheel issue). See any, and you should take care of things ASAP: get a tire replacement, a suspension replacement (namely, parts like shocks), a wheel alignment, or even a brake replacement. You can go DIY, but if you're not sure how to proceed, a CDJR dealer or a certified Mopar service center can help.
  • Use the right OEM tire accessories. This is important for any maintenance. Tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) parts, air compressor kits, inflator kits -- we've got whatever you need for the job. It's all genuine Mopar, fit's guaranteed, and best of all, it's affordable. Buy now, and we'll ship to your door fast, anywhere in the US. Contact us with any questions.
