OEM MOPAR Camshafts, Lifters, & Parts Online
Every vehicle from Chrysler 300 to Jeep Wrangler has a camshaft (cam, for short). It's a rotating shaft in the engine. What it does is activate the spring-loaded intake and exhaust valves for each cylinder, and it does so using lifters, in time with engine pistons pumping and the spark plugs firing. Engines can have cams that work all the valves or separate ones for each. For instance, an engine with an overhead camshaft design has separate cams for each cylinder bank. V-configurations, on the other hand, such as in V6 or V8 engines, can have either two or four cams.
Unfortunately, any camshaft can go bad, owing to everything from a worn timing gear or a broken dowel pin or two to mechanical valvetrain problems. Luckily, there are signs to tell you that may be about to happen. Look for a lit Check Engine light, metal debris in your motor oil, visible damage, and increased emissions, and listen for loud ticks or taps and engine misfires. Ignoring such symptoms can lead to cam breakage, extensive crankshaft and cylinder head damage, and damage to other engine parts. If you see any of them, inspect the camshaft, and either machine your old camshaft or replace it; the latter is the better choice. When you buy a new one, though, make sure it's the genuine article. Do the same for lifters and parts.
Why Buy Genuine OEM Camshafts and Parts vs. Aftermarket?
Off-brands can't promise that theirs will be designed to fit your ride perfectly. Mopar, however, can. It manufactures them for everything from Dodge Challenger to RAM 1500.
